This video shows a micro-scale compression test of a hydrogel sphere.

The specimen had an initial diameter of approximately 0.3 mm, with peak compressive forces on the order of 10 mN. Micro-scale compression testing is commonly used to characterize the mechanical behavior of soft biomaterials, hydrogels, and microscale constructs.

This test was performed using an earlier generation CellScale micro-scale testing system (the MicroSquisher). Current micro-scale compression testing capabilities are available using the CellScale MicroTester.
