RESEARCH SUMMARY
This study explored cytotoxic and mechanical effects of oral galvanism caused by dental alloys and galvanic currents on mucosa-like tissue models. Results showed direct current caused acute cytotoxicity, while NiCr-AgPd corrosion ions induced long-term collagen stiffening.

CELLSCALE INSTRUMENT USED

MicroTester

The CellScale MicroTester G2 quantified Young’s modulus of collagen-based mucosa-like models using spherical indentation to 200 µm depth. Models exposed to NiCr–AgPd showed increased stiffness (11–14 kPa), revealing ion-induced matrix cross-linking.
