Tissue Engineering Part C: Methods

University of Plymouth, Haleon PLC

RESEARCH SUMMARY
Developed a 3D oral mucosal model subjected to cyclical compression (0–10 N) to mimic masticatory forces. Found force-dependent epithelial thinning, cytokine increase (IL-6, IL-8), and protective effects from denture adhesive.

CELLSCALE INSTRUMENT USED

MechanoCulture TX

Used the MechanoCulture TX to apply controlled cyclical compressive forces (0–10 N, 1 Hz, 2 h) on 3D oral mucosal constructs to simulate masticatory pressure and assess tissue response.
