RESEARCH SUMMARY
This study correlated intravascular balloon under-expansion during pre-dilation with coronary lesion stiffness. Ex vivo biaxial tests on human plaques were used to validate an OCT-based imaging model predicting hyperelastic parameters. Results revealed strong correlation between under-expansion and stiffness, enabling patient-specific modeling for stent optimization.

CELLSCALE INSTRUMENT USED

BioTester

Biaxial testing of coronary plaques was conducted using a CellScale BioTester with 1.5 N load cells and 4.7 mm rakes at 37°C. The BioTester generated stress–stretch curves up to 25% strain, validating OCT-derived hyperelastic model predictions.
