RESEARCH SUMMARY
In vitro study evaluating diazonium-based surface priming to improve adhesion between PEEK and resin cement. PEEK samples received seven surface treatments (APA, D, A, APAA, DA, APAD, APADA; plus control). Surface chemistry (XPS), roughness (profilometry), wettability (contact angle), and tensile bond strength were measured. APADA (airborne-particle abrasion + diazonium + adhesive) achieved the highest tensile bond strength (~13.9 MPa), while controls exhibited negligible bonding (~0.1 MPa). Diazonium increased nitrogen content and wettability; adhesive containing MMA enhanced bond strength across groups.

CELLSCALE INSTRUMENT USED

UniVert

Bonded PEEK specimens were tested using a CellScale UniVert mechanical tester. During bonding, a constant 50 N load was applied; after 24 h water storage, tensile pull-out was performed at 1 mm/min to failure. Bond strength (MPa) was calculated from UniVert load-displacement data and bonded area.
