RESEARCH SUMMARY
This work presents a multifunctional hydrogel patch composed of polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) and PEDOT:PSS, featuring mushroom-shaped micropillars inspired by biological adhesive structures. The composite hydrogel achieves strong, reversible adhesion on both dry (129 kPa) and wet (116 kPa) surfaces, retaining performance over 300 cycles while maintaining high electrical conductivity (25.5 S/m) and Joule heating capability. Its micropillar geometry enables conformal contact with irregular surfaces, making it suitable for wearable sensors, flexible heaters, and soft bioelectronic patches.

CELLSCALE INSTRUMENT USED

UniVert

Uniaxial tensile testing of PEGDMA/PEDOT:PSS (PEG‑PP) hydrogels was performed using a CellScale UniVert universal testing machine (Waterloo, ON, Canada) equipped with a 200 N load cell. Rectangular hydrogel specimens (30 mm × 15 mm × 0.4 mm) were tested at 0.5 mm s⁻¹ strain rate. The stress–strain response was used to calculate the elastic modulus within 0–5 % strain, demonstrating that increasing PEDOT:PSS content (0–30 wt%) raised stiffness from ~3 MPa to >10 MPa without loss of flexibility.
